I am going to let Alan tell it...I couldn't match is enthusiasm!
Well, it was a very memorable weekend, as my daughter (Becca), future son-in-law (Paul), and I went to watch the In it To Win It 200 at Darlington Raceway. We had VIP passes to the truck race, complements of Reaume Brothers Racing (RBR) owner/driver Josh Reaume. Paul is the graphics co-manager, for RBR. The truck that was raced, at Darlington was designed by Paul, with input from Becca. The marble highlight on the truck was her idea, as the truck sponsor was Colonial Countertops. And!!!!!, as "Drivers Start Your Engines" was yelled, and the trucks roared to life, Paul proposed to Becca, while I manned the phone-video.
Another really cool thing, we met this nice man from GMS Racing, and he invited us to watch the truck race from the viewing stand at the Turn 1 end of pit road. It was fan-tastic! And another neat thing... aside from all the drivers that I shared a "hello" with, I got to meet Jamie Little and my NASCAR crush Jen Jo Cobb! The last photo, looking down the frontstretch, was our view during the truck race.
We were actually not supposed to stay for the Cup race (it was the first Truck/Cup double-header that I remember there being). But we hid in the RBR hauler, with the RBR crew chief (Matt) and hauler driver (Lisa), for a post-race meal, then watched the first stage of the Cup race. Matt and Lisa have taken Paul under their wings, letting him live at their home, while the kids search their own housing. Matt and Lisa have been around NASCAR for decades. They know most everyone in the business, through employment or just working around them.
As a bonus, Paul invited us to Hickory Motor Speedway, for some Saturday night Late Model racing. RBR had the team's car entered. Unfortunately, the 34 was slow, and finished second to last. I expected Hickory to be, let's just say, more updated. It's just your basic local track now, and it looks it.
Thanks, as always, for a great home for fantasy racing!
